The United States imposed sanctions on Iran in 1979, following the Iranian revolution, and expanded them in 1995 to prohibit firms from doing business with the Iranian government. The UN also sanctioned Iran in 2006, when the Iranian government refused to suspend its uranium enrichment program.
Also, the US has choked off Iranian oil exports, listed its military a terrorist organization and dispatched an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers to its environs to stop Iran’s “aggression”.
In giving support for Pres. Trump, Justin Trudeau’s government has broken an Iranian promise to restart diplomatic relations, failed to withdraw Iran from Canada’s list of state sponsors of terrorism and recently accused Tehran of destabilizing the region.
